Most of us have used aluminum foil countless times, but have you ever wondered why one side is shiny while the other is dull?
It has led many people to believe that one side should face the food while the other should face outward.
The difference actually comes from the manufacturing process. During the final rolling stage, two layers of foil are pressed together. The sides touching the polished rollers become shiny, while the sides touching each other remain dull.
For regular aluminum foil, either side can generally face the food — both sides work essentially the same for normal cooking and food storage.
