In the world of Hollywood, we often associate wealth with the biggest names on the charts or the most famous faces on television. We think of Taylor Swift and her record-breaking Eras Tour, Oprah Winfrey and her massive media empire, or Rihanna and her global beauty brand. However, there is one actress whose net worth dwarfs them all, yet she often walks down the street without being recognized by the average fan. Her name is Jami Gertz, and her story is one of the most fascinating “hidden” success stories in the entertainment industry.

While many remember her from 80s classics like The Lost Boys or the 90s blockbuster Twister, Jami Gertz’s true financial power comes from a combination of savvy investments, sports ownership, and a long-term partnership with her husband, billionaire investor Tony Ressler. As of 2026, her estimated net worth sits between $8 billion and $12 billion, placing her in a league of her own compared to other female celebrities.

One of the most inspiring aspects of Jami’s story is that she was actually the primary breadwinner when she married Tony Ressler in 1989. At the time, she was a rising star in Hollywood, while Tony was just beginning his career in finance. Over the decades, they built an empire together. Tony co-founded Apollo Global Management and Ares Management, two of the world’s most successful private equity firms. Today, the couple are part-owners of the Atlanta Hawks (NBA) and have a minority stake in the Milwaukee Brewers (MLB).

Despite her staggering wealth, Jami Gertz remains one of the most grounded and philanthropic figures in the industry. She and her husband are consistently ranked among the most generous celebrity donors in the world. They founded The Painted Turtle, a camp for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses, and continue to support numerous charitable causes. Jami Gertz proves that you don’t need to be the most famous person in the room to be the most successful—and that true wealth is often built quietly, behind the scenes
