Zane and I spent 34 years together.<\/p>\n
He wasn’t simply my husband. He was my closest friend, the person I trusted with everything, and the man beside me through nearly every chapter of my adult life. After that many years together, I thought there were very few things about him that I didn’t know.<\/p>\n
Then everything changed when Zane was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.<\/p>\n
Our lives quickly became centered around hospital rooms, appointments, treatments, and long conversations about the future. I stayed by his side whenever I could, convinced that somehow we would find a way through it.<\/p>\n

I was not to open it.<\/strong><\/p>\n I wanted answers immediately.<\/p>\n Who was this woman?<\/p>\n Why had Zane written to her?<\/p>\n And why was it so important that I deliver the message myself?<\/p>\n But he was sick, and I couldn’t bring myself to challenge him over something he clearly considered important.<\/p>\n When Zane died, everything became a blur.<\/p>\n There were arrangements to make, people to contact, visitors arriving, and condolences to accept.
